This species, Lysimachia quadrifolia L., is a perennial herb. It reaches a maximum height of approximately 1 metre (3.3 ft). It has long, shallow roots that sometimes spread across the ground surface. Its stems are typically simple and unbranched. The leaves have spots and are hairy on their undersides, and they grow in whorls of 3 to 7 around the stem. Flowers grow from the leaf whorls on long stalks. Each five-parted flower is yellow with a reddish center, sometimes has reddish margins, and is marked with streaks of dark resin canals. This species grows in fens and moist prairies.
