The slender sole, scientifically named Lyopsetta exilis (Jordan & Gilbert, 1880), is a flatfish species that belongs to the family Pleuronectidae. It is a demersal fish that lives on seabeds close to rocky areas, at depths ranging from 25 metres (82 feet) to 800 metres (2,625 feet). Its native range is along the eastern Pacific coast, extending from the mouth of the Alsek River in Alaska in the north to Isla Cedros in Baja California, Mexico in the south. This species can grow up to 35 centimetres (14 inches) in total length.
