About Lygistopterus sanguineus (Linnaeus, 1758)

Lygistopterus sanguineus can reach a body length of 6–12 millimeters (0.24–0.47 inches). It has a flat body, with red or light brown-reddish elytra that have clearly visible longitudinal grooves. The upper side of the body is often covered in dense red hairs. A distinctive trunk-like protuberance on its head is not present in any other Central European species of its family. The pronotum is black in the center, but matches the elytra's color on its left and right outer edges. This species occurs in Europe, North Africa, and Asia. These beetles are abundant on shady, moist forest edges.
