Lygaeus turcicus, commonly known as the false milkweed bug, is widely distributed across eastern United States and Canada. Its primary food source is the seeds of false sunflower, Heliopsis helianthoides. This species is commonly mistaken for other black and red or black and orange insects, specifically Oncopeltus fasciatus, Lygaeus kalmii, and Lygaeus reclivatus.
