About Lycoris squamigera Maxim.

Lycoris squamigera is an herbaceous plant that grows large amounts of long leaves, reaching up to 12 inches long and 1 inch wide, which emerge in spring. These leaves die back before the plant produces flowers, so when flowers later emerge from bare ground with no leaves present, this feature gives the plant one of its common names: Naked Ladies. The leaves sprout from the plant's bulbs and grow through spring, then die back completely in June, leaving no visible above-ground growth. In mid to late summer, flowers emerge quickly from the bare ground, typically reaching full bloom just four to five days after they first appear. This sudden blooming gives the plant three more common names: surprise lily, magic lily, and resurrection lily. The flowers of Lycoris squamigera are white or pink, and they are fragrant.
