Lycopodium japonicum Thunb. is a common plant species belonging to the genus Lycopodium in the clubmoss family. It is widely distributed across China, Japan, and countries in Southern Asia. This plant has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat sprains, strains, and myasthenia, and research into its therapeutic efficacy is still ongoing. In 2012, five structurally unusual alkaloids named lycojaponicumins A through E were isolated from this plant.
