About Lychas variatus (Thorell, 1876)

This species, Lychas variatus, reaches an adult length of approximately 40 millimeters. Its body is yellowish-brown, with a mottled or marbled pattern of lighter brown patches. The tail makes up roughly half of the species' total body length, and there is a small prong at the base of its stinger. In addition to New Guinea, Lychas variatus is distributed across most of northern and eastern Australia. It favors warm, moist habitats, and typically shelters under rocks, bark, and plant litter.
