About Lycaeides melissa (Edwards, 1873)

Lycaeides melissa (Edwards, 1873) has a wingspan ranging from 22 to 35 mm. On the underside of its hindwing, an orange submarginal band that often bears distal iridescent blue spots distinguishes this species from the similar Plebejus idas, which has more muted colors and markings. In Lycaeides melissa, the marginal line is wider at points where veins intersect, and its wing fringes are not checkered.
