About Lunaria rediviva L.
Lunaria rediviva, commonly called perennial honesty, is a flowering plant species that belongs to the cabbage family Brassicaceae. It is a hairy-stemmed herbaceous perennial plant found across all of Europe. It frequently grows in damp woodlands growing on lime substrates. It can reach a maximum height of 1 m (3.3 ft). It produces large, pointed oval leaves that have prominent serrated edges. In spring, it grows clusters of fragrant pale pink flowers. After flowering, it develops translucent oval seedheads that are often used in flower arranging. This species is cultivated as a decorative garden plant, and it has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. The Latin specific epithet rediviva translates to 'growing again' or 'reviving'. This name refers to the plant's perennial growth habit, which is the key trait that sets it apart from its close relative, the annual or biennial Lunaria annua.
