About Luidia australiae Döderlein, 1920

Luidia australiae has a variable number of long, slender, tapering arms, with seven being the most common count. Its central disc and arms are dull yellow, marked with irregular dark green or black blotches. This species can reach a diameter of 40 centimetres (16 in). Luidia australiae is native to waters around southern Australia and New Zealand. It occurs on reefs, in seagrass meadows, and in a semi-buried state in sand, at depths down to 110 metres (360 ft). It is sometimes washed ashore after storms.
