About Loxops mana (S.B.Wilson, 1891)

The Hawaiʻi creeper, also called Hawaii creeper or alawī, with the scientific name Loxops mana, is a species of Hawaiian honeycreeper that is endemic to the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. Its natural habitats are dry forests and montane moist forests, located at elevations between 1,000 and 2,300 metres (3,300 to 7,500 ft). There are 12,000 individual Hawaiʻi creepers total, split across three separate populations. A fourth group found on the western part of the island is likely made up of migratory birds from one of the three existing populations. This bird measures 4.5 inches (11 cm) in length and has drab green plumage. In 2017, the traditional Hawaiian name alawī was rediscovered for this species.
