About Loxigilla barbadensis Cory, 1886
The Barbados bullfinch, scientifically named Loxigilla barbadensis Cory, 1886, is a small bird that measures 14–15 cm (5.5–6 in) in length. Its upperparts are dark olive-grey, its wings are mostly brown, its underparts are greyish, and its under tail-coverts are tawny. This species shows no sexual dimorphism, meaning females and males have similar plumage. Its calls include simple twittering, an occasional harsh petulant note, and a sharp trill. The Barbados bullfinch is found exclusively on the island of Barbados. Its natural habitat consists of shrubbery and forest undergrowth, and the species has adapted well to human activity, frequently occurring close to areas of human habitation such as gardens. For reproduction, Barbados bullfinches build a globular nest with a side entrance in a tree or shrub, and the species lays two to three spotted eggs.
