About Lotus angustissimus L.

Lotus angustissimus L. is an annual plant. It can be identified by its hairy red stems, single yellow flowers that resemble the flowers of common vetch, and oval leaves with pointed spear-like tips. This species grows in low mats across the ground, and blooms from July to August. It produces distinct, unique reddish seeds. The species has a wide native distribution that ranges from Macaronesia, North Africa, and Europe, through West Asia to the Caucasus, Kazakhstan, Western Siberia, and Xinjiang. It has been introduced to other areas outside its native range, including California, where it is classified as a weed.
