About Lottia subrugosa (d'Orbigny, 1841)
This species of limpet, Lottia subrugosa (d'Orbigny, 1841), has a shell that measures between 16 and 30 millimeters in size. It is distributed along the coasts of Brazil and Uruguay, and inhabits mostly the mid-intertidal zone. It is the most common limpet with large population sizes in the Brazilian midlittoral. This species can occupy the small gaps in mussel beds that are dominated by Brachidontes solisianus and Brachidontes darwinianus. It is also very abundant in regions dominated by the barnacle Tetraclita stalactifera.
