The Sri Lanka hanging parrot, scientifically named Loriculus beryllinus (J.R.Forster, 1781), is a small hanging parrot. It measures 13 cm in length and has a short tail. Adult individuals have a red crown and red rump, with an orange tint on the nape and back, pale blue coloring on the chin and throat, a red beak, and white irises. Immature birds do not have the orange hue on the back, have a duller rump, only show a hint of orange on the crown, have a faint blue throat, orange beaks, and brown irises.
