Lophoceros fasciatus is a large bird species that measures 54 centimetres (21 in) in total length. Its plumage is primarily black, with contrasting white coloration on the belly and the tip of the tail. It has a long, curved bill patterned black and yellow, that carries a medium-sized casque. Adult males and females have similar overall appearances, but females have smaller casques than males. Immature birds of this species have duller plumage, smaller bills, and do not develop a casque. This species has an undulating flight pattern.
