About Lophoceros bradfieldi (Roberts, 1930)
Bradfield's hornbill, with the scientific name Lophoceros bradfieldi, is an African hornbill species. It is a medium-sized bird, measuring 50 to 57 cm (20 to 22 in) in length. Its defining physical features include a black back and wings, a white belly, and white tip feathers on its long tail. Females are smaller than males, and can be identified by their turquoise facial skin. Both sexes have yellow eyes and a long, red casque-free beak. This species is an uncommon resident found in mopane woodlands and mixed thorn fields across northeastern Namibia (particularly the Waterberg plateau), northern Botswana, southern Angola, and eastern Zimbabwe. Its diet consists of fruits, large insects, nuts, and small reptiles. Both the common name and the scientific Latin binomial honor R. D. Bradfield, a South African naturalist who lived from 1882 to 1949.
