About Lophoceros alboterminatus Büttikofer, 1889
Lophoceros alboterminatus Büttikofer, 1889, commonly known as the crowned hornbill, is a medium-sized bird. Adults measure 50–54 centimetres (20–21 inches) in total length. Its plumage has distinct markings: a white belly, black back and black wings, and white tips on the feathers of its long tail. It has yellow eyes and a red beak that bears a stocky casque on the upper mandible. Female crowned hornbills have a smaller casque than males. This species can be told apart from the visually similar Bradfield's hornbill by its shorter beak. The crowned hornbill is a common resident breeding bird found in coastal and riverine forests, ranging from eastern coastal southern Africa to northeastern Africa.
