On average, its fruit persists for 15.4 days, and each fruit contains an average of 4.5 seeds. Fruits are 88.6% water by average composition; their dry weight is made up of 43.4% carbohydrates and 1.2% lipids. This shrub produces glossy red berries, which are occasionally yellow instead. The berries are mildly poisonous to humans: children who eat around 30 berries may develop abdominal pain and vomiting.
