About Lonicera etrusca Santi
This is a deciduous perennial climbing vine that can grow up to 6 meters in length. It is covered in oval leaves several centimeters long, and produces dense flower spikes that have pairs of fused leaves at their bases. Each flower has an elongated tubular corolla up to 5 centimeters long, which is split partway into two lips. Flower color ranges from light yellow to pale reddish-pink. The stamens and style extend out from the opening of the flower. The fruit this plant produces is a bright red, round berry. The berries are poisonous to humans, but they are an important food source for frugivorous animals that share the native range of Lonicera etrusca Santi. This species is commonly cultivated as an ornamental plant. In Mount Honaz and the surrounding area of Denizli Province, Turkey, the leaves and flowers of Lonicera etrusca var. etrusca are used as fodder.
