About Lonchura molucca (Linnaeus, 1766)
The black-faced munia, scientifically known as Lonchura molucca (Linnaeus, 1766), has distinct plumage and physical features. Its face, throat, and upper breast are black. Its nape and back are dark brown, while its wings and tail are black. The underparts and rump are white, marked with fine black speckling or barring. It has a thick, bicoloured bill: the upper mandible is dark, and the lower mandible is blue-gray. Its legs are dark. This species is native to Indonesia, including the Wallacea island group, and also occurs in East Timor. It is a seed-eating bird that lives in small flocks in grassy areas.
