About Lomelosia stellata (L.) Raf.

Lomelosia stellata (L.) Raf., which has the synonym Scabiosa stellata, is a species of flowering plant in the honeysuckle family Caprifoliaceae. Its common names are starflower pincushions and starflower scabious. This species was formerly classified within the teasel family. It is native to southwestern Europe and North Africa, and is also cultivated as an ornamental plant. It is an erect annual plant, and produces an inflorescence made up of a dense, spherical cluster of pale blue flowers. After flowering, it forms showy fruits that are accompanied by striped, fan-like funnel-shaped papery bracts.
