About Lomatium martindalei (J.M.Coult. & Rose) J.M.Coult. & Rose

Lomatium martindalei (J.M.Coult. & Rose) J.M.Coult. & Rose is a perennial herb that grows from a carrot-like taproot, producing a flower stalk that reaches 15 to 40 centimeters tall. Often there is no true stem; the spreading or semi-erect leaves and the inflorescence emerge directly from ground level. The thinly fleshy leaves can grow up to nearly 20 centimeters long, with blades divided into leaflets that are made up of many small oval segments. The inflorescence holds an umbel of small yellowish flowers.

This species is native to the west coast of North America, ranging from Vancouver Island south to the Klamath Mountains in far northern California. It grows in a variety of open coastal and inland habitats, from coastal plains up to high mountain talus slopes and meadows.
