Lomariocycas magellanica (Desv.) Gasper & A.R.Sm. has the synonym Blechnum magellanicum. In Chilean Spanish, it is called costilla de vaca, which translates to cow's rib, and it is also known as palmilla. It is a medium-sized fern that is native to southern South America. Its natural range extends from Talca (at 35°S) to the Magallanes Region in Chile, and it also grows in the humid valleys of western Argentina near the Chilean border. It can be found growing from sea level up to 2200 meters above sea level.
