About Loeseliastrum matthewsii (A.Gray) Timbrook
Loeseliastrum matthewsii, an annual herbaceous species in the Polemoniaceae family, is commonly known as desert calico. It is native to the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts of western North America, where it is a relatively common species. It is a small plant that produces alternately arranged leaves; each leaf grows up to 4 centimeters long, and its edges are lined with bristle-tipped teeth. Its flowers are white, lavender, and purple with streaks, and each upper lobe has a maroon arch positioned over a white patch. This plant is named in honor of Washington Matthews.
