About Lochmaeus bilineata Packard, 1864

Lochmaeus bilineata, commonly called the double-lined prominent moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Notodontidae. This species occurs in the eastern two-thirds of the United States and southern Canada. Its range extends west to New Mexico in the southern portion of its distribution and west to Saskatchewan in the northern portion. The wingspan of adult Lochmaeus bilineata ranges from 32 to 40 mm. Adult individuals have forewings that are grey to brownish-grey in color. Adults are active in flight from April to October in the southern part of the species' range, and from June to August in the northern part. The larvae of Lochmaeus bilineata feed on species from the genera Fagus, Quercus, Tilia, Betula and Ulmus.
