About Lobaria anthraspis (Ach.) T.Sprib. & McCune

Lobaria anthraspis is a species of foliose lichen that belongs to the Lobarioidiae subfamily of the Peltigeraceae family. It was first formally described under the name Sticta anthraspis in 1803 by pioneering lichenologist Erik Acharius. In 1939, Swedish botanist Adolf Hugo Magnusson proposed moving the species to the genus Pseudocyphellaria, and it was classified as a member of this genus for several decades. The development of modern molecular phylogenetics later allowed researchers to refine and reorganize the classification of the Peltigeraceae family. Toby Spribille and Bruce McCune ultimately transferred the species to the genus Lobaria in 2014.
