About Lithophragma bolanderi A.Gray
Lithophragma bolanderi A.Gray is a species of flowering plant in the saxifrage family, commonly called Bolander's woodland star. This species is endemic to California, where it occurs in several mountain ranges: the North Coast Ranges, the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, and the San Gabriel Mountains. It grows in many types of open habitat. It is a rhizomatous perennial herb that grows either erect or leaning, producing a tall naked flowering stem. Its leaves grow on the lower portion of the stem, and each leaf is divided into rounded lobes. The flowering stem can bear up to 25 flowers. Each flower sits within a cuplike calyx made of red or green sepals. It has five white petals that are less than one centimeter long, with edges that are either toothed or smooth.
