About Lithocarpus hystrix (Korth.) Rehder

Lithocarpus hystrix is a tree species that grows up to 36 metres (120 ft) tall, with a trunk diameter reaching up to 75 cm (30 in). Its bark is brownish or reddish, scaly or lenticellate, and contains tannin. The species produces coriaceous, tomentose leaves that grow up to 16 cm (6 in) in length. Its acorns are purplish, shaped ovoid to conical, and measure up to 2 cm (1 in) across. This species grows naturally in Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, and Borneo. It inhabits mixed dipterocarp to montane forests, at elevations ranging from 300 m (1,000 ft) to 1,300 m (4,000 ft).
