About Lithocarpus glaber (Thunb.) Nakai
Lithocarpus glaber (Thunb.) Nakai, commonly called the Japanese oak, is a tree species belonging to the family Fagaceae. It is native to Japan, China, and Taiwan. In Japan, this species is known locally as Shiribukagashi (尻深樫 シリブカガシ), and Mitami Shrine, a Shinto shrine located in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, Japan, is locally well known for hosting a comparatively large population of Lithocarpus glaber. In China, the species is called ke (柯), and in the Cantonese language, it is called Seklik (石櫃). Researchers have analyzed condensed tannins extracted from L. glaber leaves via acid-catalyzed degradation performed in the presence of cysteamine, and these condensed tannins have potent free radical scavenging activity.
