Lithocarpus edulis (Makino) Nakai is a species of flowering plant in the family Fagaceae. Its common name is Japanese stone oak, and it is native to Japan and the Ryukyu Islands. This evergreen tree can grow up to 15 meters tall. Its nuts are edible for human consumption, but they have a bitter taste. The nuts contain tannins, which can be removed by soaking the nuts in water. Lithocarpus edulis is cultivated for use as an ornamental plant.
