About Lithobates palmipes (Spix, 1824)

The Amazon River frog, scientifically named Lithobates palmipes, is a frog species belonging to the family Ranidae. It is found in northern and Amazonian South America east of the Andes, in the countries and territories of Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and Trinidad, with additional scattered records from northeastern Brazil. In Spanish, this species goes by the name rana verde verdadera. Its natural habitats are tropical rainforests located near permanent bodies of water. The International Union for Conservation of Nature does not classify this species as threatened. The Ye'kwana people of southeastern Venezuela highly value this frog as a food source.
