About Liphistius malayanus Abraham, 1923

This species, Liphistius malayanus, is a large trapdoor spider. Both sexes are black or dark brown, and sometimes patches of red can be seen on their bodies. The species is native to Malaysia, where it occurs across the main mountain range of the Malay Peninsula. It can be found in several specific microhabitats: soil on the exposed slopes of roads and trails both inside and outside of forests, always staying within close proximity to forested areas; the sides of erosion gullies; sloping forest floors; and within decomposing log wood.
