About Liparis swenssonii F.M.Bailey
Liparis swenssonii F.M.Bailey is most often a lithophytic herb, and rarely grows as a terrestrial herb. It has more or less oval pseudobulbs that measure 20โ40 mm (0.8โ2 in) long and 15โ30 mm (0.6โ1 in) wide. This species produces one or two linear to lance-shaped leaves, which are 100โ300 mm (4โ10 in) long, 1โ2.5 mm (0.04โ0.1 in) wide and folded along their length. Between five and thirty or more greenish, unpleasantly scented flowers are borne on a flowering stem 100โ250 mm (4โ10 in) long. Individual flowers are 7โ9 mm (0.3โ0.4 in) long and 7โ10 mm (0.3โ0.4 in) wide. The sepals are 7โ9 mm (0.3โ0.4 in) long and about 2 mm (0.08 in) wide, while the petals are slightly shorter and narrower than the sepals. Both the sepals and petals spread widely apart from one another. The labellum is 6โ8 mm (0.2โ0.3 in) long and about 3 mm (0.1 in) wide, with two parallel orange or yellow ridges along its mid-line and a deep channel at its base. Flowering takes place between February and July. This plant grows on rocks, and sometimes in rocky soil, within rainforest or moist open forest in coastal ranges between the Clarence River in New South Wales and Gympie in Queensland.
