About Liotyphlops ternetzii (Boulenger, 1896)
Liotyphlops ternetzii, also known as Liotyphlops incertus in older sources, is a species of blind snake first described by Boulenger in 1896. Adults of this species measure 88–413 mm (3.5–16.3 in) in total length when including the tail. It occurs across northern Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Brazil. The existing record of this species from Suriname, originally published under the name Liotyphlops incertus, is considered questionable. Its confirmed natural habitats include grassland, savanna, and gallery forest, located at altitudes ranging from 200 to 1,000 m (660 to 3,280 ft). This is a fossorial, burrowing species that feeds primarily on insects, with a particular preference for ants and termites. It reproduces via an oviparous method; an adult female can lay a clutch of between 2 and 7 eggs.
