About Lioptilodes albistriolatus (Zeller, 1871)
Lioptilodes albistriolatus (Zeller, 1871) is a moth species belonging to the family Pterophoridae. In South and Central America, this species has been recorded in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, and Puerto Rico. It is also found in North America, where it is known to occur in Mexico, California, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. In Hawaii, Lioptilodes albistriolatus is an introduced species. The wingspan of adults of this species measures 15–20 mm. The intensity of this moth's body coloration and markings varies between individuals. Adult moths have been recorded on the wing in January, February, March, May, June, August, November, and December. The larvae of Lioptilodes albistriolatus feed on a variety of species within the plant family Asteraceae. Documented host species include Erigeron maximus, Erigeron strigosus, Conyza bonariensis, Conyza primulifolia, Conyza canadensis, Diplostephium ericoides, Baccharis salicifolia, Baccharis trinervis, Baccharis discolor, Baccharis serratula, Senecio pinnatus, Minasia species, Noticastrum decumbens, Symphyotrichum elliottii, Symphyotrichum subulatus, and Solidago odora. The larvae feed inside the flower heads of their host plants.
