About Liocarcinus navigator (Herbst, 1794)

This species, previously referred to as Polybius navigator, has a dark brown carapace that reaches approximately 33 millimetres (1.3 inches) in width, with lighter-colored pereiopods. The frontal margin of the carapace, the area located between the eyes, has a fringe of hair and no spines. This crab is found primarily around the British Isles. Its range extends across the northeast Atlantic Ocean, including the North Sea, reaching as far north as Trøndelag in Norway and as far south as Mauritania, and it also lives in the Mediterranean Sea.
