About Linaria maroccana Hook.fil.
Linaria maroccana Hook.fil. is a species of flowering plant in the plantain family, commonly called Moroccan toadflax and annual toadflax. It is native to Morocco, but grows wild as an introduced species in other regions outside its native range, including California. It is a widely available ornamental plant for flower gardens. This species is an annual herb that grows erect, reaching a maximum height near 50 cm (20 in). Its stem bears linear leaves that are 2–4 cm (0.8–1.6 in) long. The inflorescence is a raceme of flowers that grows at the top of the stem. Each flower has a calyx at its base with five narrow, pointed lobes. The flower itself is 2–4 cm (0.8–1.6 in) long, with five lobes arranged into two lips and a spur at the end. Wild-type flowers are most often purple with white coloring near the throat, but many different flower colors have been bred for garden use. Dwarf cultivars of this species are also available commercially. Its cultivar group Fairy Bouquet has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
