About Linanthus bellus (A.Gray) Greene

Linanthus bellus, commonly known as desertbeauty, is an uncommon species of flowering plant in the phlox family. It is only found in northern Baja California and eastern San Diego County, California, where it grows in high desert chaparral on sandy soils. This species is a petite annual herb that produces short, threadlike stems, with occasional tiny needle-lobed leaves growing along the stems. Its inflorescence is usually a single tiny flower, with bright pink lobes that are no more than one centimeter across. The flower has a yellow throat marked with purple spots.
