About Limnonectes namiyei (Stejneger, 1901)

Limnonectes namiyei (Stejneger, 1901) is a species of frog that belongs to the family Dicroglossidae. This species is endemic to Okinawa Island, Japan. It is named in honor of Motoyoshi Namiye, a Japanese naturalist and herpetologist. Its common names are Okinawa wart frog and Namiye's frog, and the latter name is also sometimes spelled Namie's frog. Its natural habitats are upstream areas within primary broad-leaved evergreen forest. Though it was once a common frog, its population has declined sharply. This decline is caused by two main factors: habitat loss from deforestation, road construction, and dam construction, and predation by invasive mongooses.
