About Limnonectes malesianus (Kiew, 1984)
Limnonectes malesianus, commonly known as the Malesian frog, Malaysian river frog, Malaysian peat frog, or peat swamp frog, is a species of frog belonging to the family Dicroglossidae. This species is distributed across the Malay Peninsula, including the extreme southern part of peninsular Thailand and Singapore, as well as Sumatra, Java, Borneo (spanning Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei), and multiple islands on the Sunda Shelf: Pulau Kundur, Palau Gallang, Great Natuna Island, and Sinkeo Island. Its natural habitats include shallow, slow-moving gentle streams and nearby swampy areas, which encompass peat swamps, very flat alluvial forests, and overgrown plantations. Limnonectes malesianus is growing increasingly rare, primarily due to habitat loss caused by deforestation, with exploitation contributing to population decline to a lesser degree.
