About Limnonectes macrodon (Duméril & Bibron, 1841)

Limnonectes macrodon, which is commonly called the fanged river frog, Javan giant frog, Malaya wart frog, or stone creek frog, is a species of frog in the Dicroglossidae family. It is endemic to Sumatra and Java, Indonesia. Reported observations of this species from other regions are most likely the result of misidentification, where other species like Limnonectes blythii have been incorrectly categorized as this frog. Individual L. macrodon live in forested areas located beside streams, and they breed within these streams. Both the extent and quality of the lowland forest habitat this species relies on are currently declining. As a result, this species, which was once common, is becoming uncommon. In Java, Indonesia, this frog is widely collected for people to eat, and it is harvested alongside the crab-eating frog Fejervarya cancrivora.
