About Limnonectes leporinus (Andersson, 1923)

The giant river frog, scientifically named Limnonectes leporinus, is a frog species that belongs to the Dicroglossidae family. This species is endemic to the island of Borneo, where it can be found in Brunei, Kalimantan (Indonesia), and Sabah and Sarawak (Malaysia). Giant river frogs live along the banks of rocky streams ranging from small to large size, located in hilly lowland rainforest habitats. The tadpoles of this species develop in quiet side pools alongside these streams. This species is locally impacted by deforestation and over-exploitation, but the IUCN does not currently classify it as a threatened species.
