About Limnodromus semipalmatus (Blyth, 1848)
Adult Limnodromus semipalmatus have dark legs and a long, straight dark bill, which is somewhat shorter than the bill of the long-billed dowitcher. In breeding plumage, their upper body is brown and their underbody is reddish. Their tail has a black and white barred pattern. Their winter plumage is largely grey. Their breeding habitat is grassy wetlands in inland Siberia and Manchuria. They migrate to southeast Asia, reaching as far south as northern Australia, though both their breeding and wintering ranges are poorly understood. This species is always found on coasts during migration and wintering. These birds forage by probing in shallow water or on wet mud. They mainly eat insects, mollusks, crustaceans and marine worms, and also consume some plant material.
