About Limacus flavus (Linnaeus, 1758)
This slug species, Limacus flavus, has a yellow body with grey mottling and pale blue tentacles. When fully extended, its body length ranges from 7.5 to 10 cm (3.0 to 3.9 inches). It is commonly found across Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, and most of southern and western Europe. It has been accidentally introduced to many other regions worldwide. In Ukraine, Limacus flavus has rapidly expanded its range through human-mediated dispersal called anthropochory. This species is strongly linked to human habitation, and typically occurs in damp locations including cellars, kitchens, gardens, and under stones. It is nocturnal, so it is only active and visible at night. As a result, it often goes unseen, and many people do not realize that the species is relatively common. Ecologically, Limacus flavus feeds mainly on fungi, decaying organic matter, and vegetables.
