About Ligustrum quihoui Carrière
Ligustrum quihoui, commonly known as waxyleaf privet, is a shrub native to Korea and multiple regions of China: Anhui, Guizhou, Henan, Hubei, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Shandong, Sichuan, Xizang (Tibet), Yunnan, and Zhejiang. Like some other species in the Ligustrum genus, L. quihoui is grown as an ornamental plant in many locations. It has become naturalized and invasive in urban areas and scattered forested areas across the southeastern United States, including Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. This species is a shrubby semi-evergreen to evergreen privet that grows 1 to 3 meters tall. It is known for its large, sparse flowering panicles of fragrant white flowers that appear late in the growing season, a trait that makes it a popular garden plant.
