About Ligularia sibirica (L.) Cass.
Ligularia sibirica (L.) Cass. is the type species of the genus Ligularia. It is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows 0.3 to 1.3 meters tall. This species is native to fens and damp grassy meadows across Siberia, and Central and Eastern Europe. Though it was once fairly common across its range, it has disappeared from many locations in Europe. This decline is caused by the drainage of wetlands and increased competition from other plants that invade its natural habitats. When individuals of this species grow in shaded conditions, they do not flower or produce seed well, and their seed germination rate is greatly reduced. Ligularia sibirica is sometimes cultivated in gardens, valued for its large leaves and tall spike-like arrangement of yellow, daisy-like flowers.
