About Ligidium hypnorum (Cuvier, 1792)
Ligidium hypnorum (Cuvier, 1792) is a species of woodlouse that occurs across Europe and western Asia. It is a fast-moving, active species that rarely grows longer than 9 mm (0.35 in). This woodlouse is dark and shiny in appearance. It looks similar to the common woodlouse species Philoscia muscorum, and also similar to the rarer species Oritoniscus flavus. In Great Britain, Ligidium hypnorum was first found at Copthorne Common, Surrey, in 1873. Most later records of the species from Great Britain also come from South East England. Ligidium hypnorum is considered a good indicator species for ancient woodland.
