About Lichenaula onychodes Turner, 1898
Lichenaula onychodes Turner, 1898 is a species of moth belonging to the family Xyloryctidae. It occurs in Australia, with recorded distributions across the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia. This moth has a wingspan of 16 to 18 mm. Its forewings are grey in base color with blackish markings: the very base of the costa is blackish, and there is a black line running from the base to the inner-margin at one-fifth of the wing length. A second line runs obliquely from this first line toward the costa, but does not reach it. An inwardly curved transverse line sits in the disc before one-third of the wing length, and does not quite reach either wing margin. An inwardly oblique line runs from the costa at three-fifths of the wing length toward the middle of the inner-margin, but does not reach it, followed by another inwardly curved line starting before the anal angle that also does not reach the costa. A faint outwardly curved line is present in the disc beyond this last line. The hindwings are whitish-grey. The larvae of Lichenaula onychodes feed on Eucalyptus pauciflora, and bore into the stems of their host plant.
