About Libellula incesta Hagen, 1861
Libellula incesta, commonly known as the slaty skimmer, is a dragonfly species that belongs to the skimmer family. It is native to the eastern United States, as well as southern Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick. Adult slaty skimmers measure 5.28 cm (2.08 in) in length. Mature males have dark blue bodies and black heads. Females and juvenile individuals have brown abdomens marked with a darker stripe running down the back. The flight period for adult slaty skimmers runs from June to August. Larvae are habitat specialists that live in the benthic zone of permanent lakes.
